Microsoft Surface announced, new tablet in town

Microsoft is holding an exclusive event in Los Angeles, and the big annoucement is their new forray into tablet computing, the Microsoft Surface. This story is still developing, but so far we know this:

Runs Windows 8
10.6 inch screen
1.5 lbs
9.7 mm thick
Built-in 7mm kickstand
Nvidia ARM processor or Intel i5
Optically bonded screen (the pixels are closer to the glass)
Front and back cameras
Gorilla Glass 2
The cover doubles as a keyboard and trackpad
Built-in HDMI output and USB ports

Steve Balmer’s Jobs-esque quote from the event:

“We believe that any intersection between human and machine can be made better when every aspect of the experience, hardware and software, are considered together.”
